Why we're capping
Most studios pack their rooms. We don't. Our class caps are deliberate, not polite suggestions. The method doesn't hold up once a room gets crowded. Form correction goes. Instructor attention thins. The room stops feeling like the room.
That model only works when membership numbers stay in proportion to studio capacity. Letting it drift past that point means existing members lose the things they signed up for: 6am classes booked out a fortnight in advance, popular slots constantly full, instructors stretched too thin to actually watch what your body's doing.
Some quarters that's meant pausing Foundations classes entirely. Closing our main intake channel for weeks at a stretch, just to keep the balance right. Good for the rooms. Hard on growth.
With three studios now running, we've worked the maths.

Hurstbridge, Diamond Creek, Eltham. All under the same membership.

The capacity we've got across the network before we close to new memberships.
2-3days notice
Easy access to the classes you want. Not booking a fortnight out. Not racing for slots.
Once we hit capacity, new memberships close. Anyone wanting to join HPY adds their name to a waitlist, and a place becomes available only when a current member leaves. That's how we want to run the business long-term, because it's how members get to actually access the classes they want. No booking races at 6am. No being pinged off a waitlist for a slot you wanted. No planning your training six months ahead.
Proof, in case you're wondering
When we opened Eltham, we ran an introductory offer through the launch period. People signed up faster than we'd planned for, and we got scared of overselling it. So we pulled the offer early and knocked people back for a stretch, until we could properly work out what the studio's real capacity was.
Once we close, friends you introduce skip the public waitlist and go to the front of the queue. Forever.
We were going to spend the rest of our acquisition budget on Facebook and Google to fill those last spots. Then we thought, no. We'd rather hand that $200 to you than to Mark Zuckerberg.
The offer
When someone you introduce signs up as a member, we send $200 wherever you tell us to put it. Your HPY account as credit. CARE Australia as a donation. Your sporting club as a fundraising contribution. Same number every time. You choose each time.
For you
$200
Credit applied to your HPY membership.
For CARE Australia
$200
Donated in your name to their global work.
For your club
$200
Paid to your netball, footy, or cricket club for fundraising.
No cap on how many. Refer one a year, refer one a month, the offer is the same. At Lite membership rates, one referral roughly covers a month. At Signature, around three weeks. The maths is the maths.
Most members tell us they already know who they'd bring in. A sister who needs to move better. The mums at school pick-up. Your uncle who keeps complaining about his back. The netball team. Cousins, friends, partners. If a face just popped into your head, that's the person.
How it works
Momence (our booking system) has a referral feature built in. You generate a unique link tied to your account and share it however you want. When someone uses it to set up their HPY account, they're permanently flagged as your referral. If they ever go on to become a member, the credit triggers automatically. Nothing for you to chase.
The button sits at the top of the app. One tap generates your unique referral link tied to your account.
Email, text, group chat, in person. Anyone who taps it sets up their HPY account through Momence and gets flagged as your referral. Sisters, cousins, mums from school, the netball or footy team. Whoever you reckon would benefit.
The credit lands automatically when they sign up as a member. Prefer it to go to CARE Australia or your sporting club? Let us know and we'll redirect it.
Want to help them along? Most people start with Foundations. It's free, forty-five minutes, no pressure. If you're on Signature or Platinum, you can also bring them as your weekly guest. Get them in the room once and let the place sell itself.
Can't find the button, or prefer not to use the app? Email or SMS us with their details. We'll set it up manually. Same outcome.

The charity option
CARE is one of the most effective aid organisations on the planet. It began in 1945 helping Europe rebuild after the war, and has never stopped showing up since. Today the global network works in over 100 countries on poverty, food security, gender equality, climate resilience, and emergency response when disasters hit.
Their focus on women and girls isn't soft messaging. It's strategy backed by decades of evidence. Lift a woman out of poverty and the whole household lifts with her. Educate a girl and a village changes inside a generation. Give a mother access to a small loan and the household income shifts permanently. CARE knows this and runs their programs accordingly.
$200 goes a long way at CARE. If you'd rather a friend's referral land there than on your next billing cycle, that's exactly what happens. You decide each time.

Local clubs
If you're on the committee at a netball club, the footy team, the cricket squad, or a running group, refer a friend and we'll send the $200 straight to the club for fundraising. Same number, same trigger.
A few referrals across a season turns into a real revenue stream for the club, on top of being a real introduction for the person. Mention your club when you email or SMS us and we'll set up the redirect. If a club president or treasurer wants to talk to us about a longer-term arrangement, we're happy to do that too.
Local clubs welcome. Netball, footy, cricket, athletics, running groups. If members come in through the club, the club gets the credit.
A few last things
It isn't a referral scheme in the gross sense. There's no leaderboard, no levels, no "share with 5 friends to unlock a bonus tier." You're not being asked to recruit. If you've got someone in mind who'd genuinely benefit (a sister, a cousin, the mums at school, the netball team) introduce them. If not, that's a perfectly fine answer.
It isn't capped, either. Some referral programmes pay out the first one and quietly stop. This one doesn't. Refer twelve people across a year, get $2,400 in credit, or $2,400 to CARE Australia. The maths is the maths.
And the reason we're doing it this way is that we always spend money to grow. We were going to keep handing it to Facebook and Google. We'd rather give it to the members who already love this place and let them bring in someone they care about.
The fine print
New memberships only. The $200 is for introducing someone who isn't, and hasn't previously been, an HPY member. It doesn't apply to existing members, returning members, or anyone already signed up or mid-trial when you introduce them.
They need a Lite, Signature or Family membership. Your friend has to sign up for one of these new memberships for the $200 to apply. The credit is only for genuinely new memberships, so it doesn't apply when an existing single member upgrades to a Family membership to bring their partner on board.
It starts from 15 June 2026. The offer only applies to new memberships that begin on or after 15 June 2026. It doesn't work in retrospect, so you can't claim it for someone you introduced, or who joined, before that date.
Register the referral first. Your friend needs to come through your Momence referral link, or you need to let us know who you're introducing, before they sign up. We can't backdate a referral once they've already joined on their own.
They need to stay the minimum term. HPY memberships have a four-week minimum term, so a couple of things keep this fair. If you take the credit, it lands on your account automatically when your friend signs up; if they cancel inside their first four weeks, any unused portion of the credit is revoked. If you'd rather it went to CARE Australia or a sporting club, the donation goes through after your friend has completed their first four weeks as a member. That way we're not sending money out the door for memberships that don't stick.
One $200 per new member. The $200 is paid once per person you introduce, when they become a member. There's no cap on how many people you introduce, but each new member only triggers the reward once, and it can't be combined with another joining offer or discount.
Got questions? Anything at all. Who counts, how it works, what happens with the credit, whether your specific situation is covered. Email or SMS us. We always reply.
See you in class,
Mel
